Erin Aiello1st Dan Black Belt Instructor Erin Aiello first started martial arts at age six when she joined Tracy’s Kempo in Connecticut; however, she wasn’t truly a serious martial artist until she walked into her first Taekwon-do school at age fourteen. At age seventeen, Erin earned her black belt at the Southington Martial Arts Academy (Southington, CT) under Master Faulkner (VI Dan). While attending the Southington Martial Arts Academy Erin was also exposed to another Korean martial art, Hap Kido. Master Faulkner continued to train under Grandmaster Ho Soo Hwang, an eighth degree black belt and Yale Taekwon-do coach. Southington Martial Arts Academy was affiliated with Grandmaster Hwang’s school and was certified under the KukkiWon, World Tae Kwon Do Federation headquarters in Korea. Erin left Southington Martial Arts Academy when she left home to attend the University of Hartford. She began training at White Tiger: the West Hartford School of Taekwon-do. A family run school, Mr. Ken Rattet (V Dan) and Mr. Seth Rattet (IV Dan) taught Erin Taekwon-do under the International Tae Kwon Do Federation, founded by General Choi in 1966. Under the Rattets' guidance Erin learned that Taekwon-do was more than a martial art, but a science. Stances and techniques were broken down to directions, angles, and speeds to be utilized not only in Tul, but sparring as well. With White Tiger Erin attended a Pan-Am tournament in Canada, participated in a knife fighting seminar, and had opportunity to sit as a judge at several I.T.F. Taekwon-do tournaments. Despite injuring her knee in 2004, Erin still continues to train in Taekwon-do and has recently started to learn to box at the P.A.L. in Fall River. Upon completion of law school, Erin hopes to have the opportunity to earn her second Dan. |
